Mega Monday?

I didn't have work today. Heather didn't have work today. Many Americans didn't have work today. Apparently, this day off has been christened Mega Monday by retailers. Heather and I did go shopping. We went to the grocery store. We got the fixin's for chili and cornbread. I'm not sure this is what the retailers had in mind for us.

The morning was clear. It would become overcast and even spit some sleet before the day was done.
We were going to take a whole meal to Heather's grandparents today. They always do the cooking and put on a epic feast this past Thanksgiving. On Christmas Day they'd had a full day of family and we expected they'd we worn out. It seemed like an opportunity for Heather to shine, which she did.

While she was making the chili, cornbread, and brownies I took the opportunity to spray Billie down with ACF-50.

ACF-50 is an anti-corrosive that can be sprayed on. I used it last season and Billie came through the Winter looking fine.

The ACF-50 makes everything very shinny when it is first sprayed on, but it never really dries. Before long it will become a dirt magnet. Yes, Billie will become a very dirty lady, but better dirty than pock marked and rusty.
Last year I bought a pair of Tusk handlebar mittens. They didn't work. I, also, tried a pair of Hippohands. But, because of the way my windscreen is installed they didn't fit either. The folks at Hippohands were wonderful to deal with and allowed me to return them. I hope that my next scooter/bike will be able to have Hippohands. They are really a great product. Anyway, I had these Tusk mittens lying around just taking up space. I've been wondering how much wind comes in under the Symba's windscreen and decided to take a shoelace and some duct tape and cobble up a windbreak to see if it makes any difference.

This was the idea. Later, I rearranged the mittens to look a little better but not much. If it makes a difference I'll worry about beauty later.

Of course, I then had to go for a ride to make sure it didn't all come flying in my face in the rain and dark I suspect I may be riding to work in tomorrow morning. It didn't fly off. I think it made a difference, but it really was too soon to tell. Stay tuned.

While I was out I saw this fellow.

Frosty looks kind of cute in camo, no?
And, yes the dinner was a big hit and we had a wonderful visit.

I hope you had a Happy Mega Monday.

  1. Chili & cornbread sounds yummy. We cooked turkey yesterday & I am already tired of leftovers.

I went to a motorcycle store this morning & almost bought a Shoei helmet, but decided to hang onto my money for a bit. So much for mega Monday. I always find it ironic that just after Christmas people still feel the need to have more stuff.

Tomorrow I am going to check out what my new bikeis going to cost to insure, I am expecting around $600 - the price of a 2 wheeled obsession is expensive.

  2. It is always good to hear of retailers that have excellent customer service. I hope you find a solution to keep your hands warmer.

I don't use ACF-50 but I should really. I avoid using it because it has the same initials as my ex-wife and I really don't want to be reminded of her whenever I go into my garage. She would be there on a shelf, looking at averything I was doing - No way!

  3. Usually I try to stay out of mall and shops especially before and during the holidays. Actually I hate shopping which is a contradiction, because a) I am a woman and b) I am a buyer by profession.

  4. Mega Monday. It is sad that we live in such a consumerist society. Oh well, all we can do is resist and not shop except for basics.

Great picture of Frosty in cammo. Who knew he was a hunter.

  5. Dar: I have so many helmets. Heather sometimes finds it amusing but more often hates the room they take up in the closet. Truth is I only really wear two of them, and no not at the same time :) The rest are just taking up space. Oh well.

I tell folk that I started to ride a scooter to use less gasoline. It's true and I have used less gasoline. But save money? I don't even want to know how much I've spent on gear, insurance, farkles, etc. It is a wonderful obsession though, isn't it?

    Thanks for stopping by.

  6. Gary: The owner of Hippohands was a gem to work with. I really wanted his product to work. I ordered the set meant for the Symba, but they wouldn't work. He had me send him a photo of my set up. It just wasn't to be. He didn't try to sell me something that might work. He was completely upfront with me.I was very impressed. Fortunately, the heated grips are really making a big difference in my hands staying warm. I love my heated grips.

WOW! ACF. There are other products out there. After hearing your comments about your ex I may change to something else. I'm not sure I want her in my garage either :)

Thanks for taking the time to read this post and make a comment. I appreciate it very much.

  7. Sonja: Shopping during the holidays is an activity I don't often enjoy. There are just too many people out and about. Nor am I one to just go to a store to just look. I tend to know what I want and go get it. I, too, don't much care for shopping.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  8. Trobairitz: I agree that it is sad that our society is organized around excessive consumption. I wasn't at all surprised that suddenly there was a Mega Monday, and I was saddened by it as well. Oh well, it is what it is I suppose.

Frosty the huntsman does strike me as odd, but he does look good in green.

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment,

  9. I've never heard of Mega Monday. I did do some grocery shopping on Monday and it didn't really seem more crowded than other weekend days. But the cold temperatures and ice fog may have kept people home.

    Camo Frosty looks good!

  10. never heard of mega monday either. we spent the day outside. it was nice!

I switched back to Boeshield T9. It is much more waxy than ACF-50, but stays on all winter. ACF50 is more shiny and runny. easier to remove too. would be great for a street bike in summer or for a dirtbike. the T9 is much more waxy and thick. doesn't come off easily. need to scrub with hot soap and water. perfect for my ural in the snow/salt/grime. it also attracts dirt like acf50.

  11. Richard: Mega Monday is a total fiction made up to hipe the day off many of us got off because of Christmas falling on a Sunday. Maybe it was just here in St. Louis. Anyway, it seemed a good excuse to stay far away from big box stores and the such. I have to admit I really don't need an excuse to stay away. I don't think they were aiming these promotions at me anyway :)

    Thanks for stopping by.

  12. Chris: I may have to look into T9. It being even more difficult to remove than the ACF-50 doesn't sound so good, but as long as it attracts dirt it must be good. Besides, it doesn't have the initials of Gary's ex-wife which is now a big plus in my book.

  13. You and I have the same idea for mega Monday. :) Glad that yours was so successful! We managed a ride on Monday and I was thinking of you when I spied some flamingos in someone's yard. Nothing like that snowman you found, but I would have expected that more in my neck of the woods than yours. ;)

  14. Lori: Glad you were able to get a ride in on Monday. I wasn't expecting to, but was glad to get in at least a taste . . . and, Frosty was the icing on that cake ;) I thought about stopping and turning off the bike to see if there was banjo music playing in the background, but decided to just keep on going.

Thanks for dropping by. I'm missing your voice. Hope the Blogmuse and the Timelords conspire to loosen your pen.

  15. I probably missed this somewhere in your posts, but why did you choose your particular scooter? If you have not addressed this already, maybe post a love letter to Billie.
