This Is Getting To Be An Old Story

I needed to get gas for my commute tomorrow. I really didn't plan to even go for a ride.  There was a chance of 100F/38C temperatures. I knew I didn't really want to inline skate in the heat. Heather was busy and I was on my own for the afternoon. I figured I would decide how to spend my afternoon after I filled up Billie. Truthfully, nothing sounded all that much fun nor was there any chores I had to really get done. Besides, it really wasn't that hot riding. Actually, it was rather comfortable. It just started to seem to be a good idea rather than go straight home to point Billie in the general direction of South.

Why South? It seems lately I've been going mostly West and North. Other than going South, the closest thing to a goal I had was to take Morganford/Union to its end, which believe me, is a rather modest undertaking. But, then I wondered what the corn looked like. I know we need rain. I wondered how bad it was. I wanted to see it with my own eyes.

The corn looks quite stressed. We are very dry here.

Well, one thing led to another and before long I found myself headed for the Covered Bridge that sets in a park at the end of Old Lemay Ferry Road.

The bridge is closed to traffic, but I know a number of people who have posed their rides in front of the bridge, and some even on the other side.

I'm afraid I am terribly rule bound. This was as close as Billie got to the bridge.

When all was said and done, my little ride turned into a three hours plus and 77mi/124km jaunt in the country. By the way the temperature didn't reach 100F, but did make it up to 98F/37C.

  1. Lovely scenery. I am guilty sometimes of engaging my scoot in a certain scenery. Usually I just wheel it there, put it in position, make my pic and wheel it back without using the motor. I hope that's just bending the rules, not breaking them.

    1. Sonja,
I'm sure you are just bending the rules, but if you were breaking them your secret would be safe with me.

      Thanks for stopping by,

  2. Roasty toasty. I am glad you and Billie managed to keep cool. Sure wish we could send you a little of our rain.

It is a bummer that you aren't allowed closer to the covered bridge but without motorized traffic they probably last longer.

    1. Brandy,
It's supposed to be even hotter by the end of the week. And, no rain in sight.

      Thanks for dropping by,

  3. Keith what a delightful day! I envy your ramblings. Covered bridges are beautiful and we are not so lucky to have them here. One day I hope to meander to some places and see these magnificent bridges myself. I too am guilty wheeling my rides up under or near interesting statues or other tourist things. It was more the scoot than motorcycle.

    1. Dar,
Life at 35mph does let you see the world. My memory is your meander pretty good yourself. How's Scarlett doing? I'm looking forward to more of your adventures.

Scarlet and I love to meander, as does Vixen. I remember when I first started scooting and I went for an all day meander. My hubby could never figure out where I would get to on a 50cc scooter and He freaked out when I put 1,000 on it in about a month. He was fretting because I was wearing out her tires. The same thing is happening with Scarlet and he still can't believe how much I ride. The other night I did an 83km ride and it was lovely, except for losing a side cover, but no biggie.

Scarlet is very happy with her new CDI and she truly makes me happy. I loved my wee scoot, but I have moved past my little 50cc chariot. I feel safer and have more range on the motorcycle. I was recently out for a ride with 9 other women and it was spectacular.

Hope you and Heather are doing well and enjoying some summer weather and that you are getting out on wee Miss Billie.

      Cheers ~ Dar

    1. Damn! Oh well, I guess next time I go I need to ask a bad influence to ride with me ;)

I saw you're getting ready for the hot that's coming later in the week. Going to be fun.

      Stay safe,

  6. K-
I loved it! Isn't it true that sometimes the best rides are totally spontaneous!?

Lovely covered bridge and your scoot is cool looking in spite of the heat.

    LOL

  7. Wow. No kidding. The corn really looks unhappy. I hope you get some relief for the sake of all living things!

  8. Dear Keith:

A three-hour run for a gallon of gas sounds perfectly normal to me. Covered bridges have an allure all there own. There were five of them in the community where I used to live. That's five more than I ever discovered i the adjacent Amish country.

    Great pictures.

  9. Keith,

You remind me how much fun a scooter can be, and I wonder why I ever sold mine. Mostly cause it was a broken pile of crap, I suppose.

We've taken to doing the little outdoor work there is around here in the morning and living inside for the rest of the day. Not very exciting, but livable. I'm glad to be reminded here that bigger displacement doesn't mean bigger plums. BIke traffic has been minimal around here, and you're bolder and tougher than I for heading out in the heat on Billie.
