Evening Came Early

They said it wasn't going to rain until evening. There were a few spots on the radar, but it was well west. The plan was to ride out Rte.61/67 for an hour and turn around and come back. This would get me home long before the rains were suppose to begin.

I pulled over for gas just as it began to sprinkle. When I got under the canopy the sky opened.
I had pulled in for gas just as it began to rain. Lucky for me I'd brought raingear. And, lucky for me I was stopped when it began to pour. Hmm, I guess today evening came early.

By the time I got to where Rte.61 breaks off of Rte.67 it had stopped raining and my hour was up. I pulled into a filling station, took a break, got some water and cooled off.

The sky seemed to be telling me it was a good idea to put the raingear back on.

Good choice.

I only got a few miles down the road before it began raining again. It rained all the way home. It was a nice hour plus ride in the rain. It was good to know I remembered how to do it. I haven't had much opportunity since early March.

Wet on the outside and dry on the inside...mostly.
Isabelle after her first bath.

After taking off my gear I headed to REI. I'd been thinking it was time to rejuvenate the waterproofing on my pants. Today's ride in the rain confirmed my suspicion.

  1. As much as we say we don't like riding in the rain, isn't it great when gear "mostly" works and we remain dry and have fun in the water? ;) I'm glad Isabelle was sure footed.

Glad that your area is getting a little rain, though late in the season. We are hoping to get some tomorrow...depending on Isaac's path.

    1. Lori,
Isabelle's disc brakes front and rear are a big improvement in the rain over Billie's drum brakes. Definitely sure footed.

We got more rain tonight. Yes, it is late in the season, but it all helps regain ground water.

  2. This is how I learned to ride in the rain. Sooner or later, you're out for a ride and the rain catches you. Next thing you know riding in the rain is old hat!

I love any excuse to hit up REI! :)

    1. Kari,
For me committing to riding to work everyday meant riding when it rained. I now really enjoy riding in a nice easy rain with small drops.

Some days I hit REI in the morning and Cabela's in the afternoon. Talk about a culture clash :)

  3. You gotta keep the bike clean somehow. That's what rain is for, right?

  4. So far this year I have totally missed the rain - it's been all around me but never overhead. Of course I haven't been riding for the past 5 weeks but still.....

    1. We just haven't had rain until the last couple of weeks. Everyone is happy when it rains here now even if it is on the weekends.

      How's the healing coming?

  5. Hopefully the rain didn't make the roads too slick when it first started. It seems to be that way around here if it hasn't rained in a while.

It seems Isabelle enjoyed her first bath though.
