Amazing the Change

Heather and I went day hiking at Castlewood State Park today. It has been over a month since we last walked these trails.

It's funny, Autumn is just around the corner, yet...

It looked a lot more like autumn on our last visit.

Amazing the change a few inches of rain can make.

  1. Yup thins go green again. Our lawn is browner than brown, my hubby says its dormant, to me it looks dead. It will be green again soon enough with the rainy season coming on soon.

    1. I was pleasantly surprised by how green things were. Even the ferns had made a comeback. After the long hot dry summer, it was wonderful to feel the woods exhale and sense its relief.

  2. Yep. Talked with some guys from Iowa and found out all the rain they received. Was wondering about you. Sorry it didn't come in time for the corn. But entering the winter less stressed will be nice. :)

    1. We've gotten some nice rains here. Still, the trails weren't muddy, a testament to how dry we were. August was very mild. I am grateful.

  3. Wow everything is so lush and green there now. We haven't had rain since June so our leaves are starting to turn early this year.

Funny how that works. You guys got the really hot spells and our weather was consistently warm but not hot. Then we are the one with the early fall colors because you finally got some rain. Ahh Mother Nature.

Glad you two got out for a great hike.

    1. Yes, the weather has been different this year. One can only wonder what it will bring next. It was very good to get out. We haven't been out much over the last month.

  4. What a pretty place to hike. The trail just beckons to be walked. As Brandy mentioned, our trees are starting to take on the warmer shades of autumn. Still subtle, but definitely a change.

    1. We are blest with many near and nice places to hike. I've been wondering what the leaves will look like as autumn approaches. Just suddenly brown and fall? Color? We have much oak so colors aren't vivid at the best of times and heaven knows for trees this summer was definitely not the best of times. Oh well, time will tell.
