It was late afternoon and the smell of BBQ was in the air. Since the heat index was 105F/41C, not many folk were out and about. The one exception were at the snow-cone trailers.
Since I was going over familiar ground I really hadn't expected to find anything new. But as I neared home, there they were.
Boy, empty streets and the smell of BBQ on a hot, hot summer day sure brings back memories. In that humidity you don't walk or ride as much as drift through the air.
ReplyDeleteMartha,
DeleteIt was our first really humid day. I don't like humidity, but I like to ride and I like the smell of BBQ. The air definitely has its own personality when it gets this humid.

Way too hot!!
ReplyDeleteYep.
DeleteI like to ride and "just putter" too!
ReplyDeleteHere lately that's all I do as it is too hot to be out until after 8pm-ish.
Glad you scouted out some "pink pals"!
Deb,
DeleteWhen I first got the Symba I still felt I needed to have a reason to go for a ride. My friend Katy was visiting from KC and mentioned she'd wanted to put a couple of pink flamingos in her Dad's backyard and he went ballistic. There was no way he was going to have pink flamingos in his backyard. And, thus began my flamingo hunting. It gave me a reason to ride, until I learned I really didn't need one.

Although having converted to vegan recently I love the smell of BBQ in the air. Thankfully there is so much good veggie stuff you can throw on the grill that isn't meat...
ReplyDeleteSonja,
DeleteI've often wondered if our brains are soft-wired to react positively to the smell of wood burning, especially if there are food aromas with it letting us know it is a hearth fire. I know I certainly do.

Glad you were able to get out. I saw a hutch of flamingos on our travels next to the river. Us I couldn't go back and take a picture for you. I do have something else you might enjoy...will get to it soon.
ReplyDeleteI am dripping with anticipation...oh wait, that's sweat from the humidity :)
DeleteTruthfully, I'm excitedly waiting for day 10.

Moto puttering is the best. I have to say a scooter is perfect for that, they are quieter and not needing to shift gears is a bonus and it's much easier to stop & take photos. Happy puttering!
ReplyDeleteDar,
DeleteActually, I do have to shift I just don't have to work a clutch. My left leg is becoming quite strong :)
The lightness and ease of maneuvering does make small scooters and bikes, like the Symba perfect for urban neighborhood exploring. And, they are so non-intimidating. It is easy to stop and talk to people. I love it.

They were being sneaky hiding among the foliage. You were meant to find them.
ReplyDeleteYuck on your heat. Hope the hot spell breaks soon.
Brandy,
DeleteWe are actually get a break from the heat. Sunday was very nice. Today was warm, but low humidity. By the weekend we may see highs in the 80's. Yay!
