One Of Those Days

It rained both Saturday morning and Sunday night. As is most often the case here in the Heartland some of the storms were severe bringing down trees and doing some damage to homes. All that is par for the course. The last time we had storms we had the winds and the damage, but very little rain. This time we had enough rain to matter, even if it wasn't enough to change our drought status. How do I know? A mushroom said so.

And, a bear agreed.

This is the first time in ages the sign hasn't said, "EXTREME".

The deer were out in the mid-afternoon and not hunkered down against the heat.

Love deer as long as they stay off the road.
This one was playing peek-a-boo. Can you see her?

Sunday, I rode in the morning and hiked with Heather in the afternoon.

It was one of those days when being grateful comes easy.

  1. That's an unusual combination, a mushroom in dried out grass.
Very odd weather this year. Our fire signs have been mild to moderate, even in Eastern Oregon (though they had some wildfires, so perhaps they should rethink the signage).

I spotted her in the enlarged pic :)
I love the last image of the trees - Lovely scene.

    1. Kari,
I was amazed to see the mushrooms. It was indeed an odd combination. Oh well, there have been a lot of odd combinations this year. A very different year weather wise.

Glad you found the doe. Sorry no prize money.

  2. I'm glad the area managed a little rain. Every little bit helps, though it is too late for the corn. Did the temps come down a little? Glad you got out for a walk.

    1. We are getting a little break in the temperatures. Last weekend we got some humidity. Thankfully that was short lived. There is a chance of high temps only in the 80F's this weekend. Trying not to get my hopes up too much.

  3. Your last sentence really resonated with me. In spite of the problems we've had here in the past 2 weeks, I've had a couple of days like that as well. Well said.

    1. I hope your ribs are mending. Broken ribs are no fun. There is no where to hide from the pain...you gotta breath.

Glad you've had some days where gratitude has reared its beautiful head.

      Thanks for commenting.

  4. That looks like a beautiful area for a walk. We don't have trees like that around here. Is this the normal afternoon thundershowers that comes with the hot weather or is it cooling things off?

    1. Richard,
This was actually a cold front moving through. We haven't had the afternoon pop-up storms this year. Not enough moisture in the air. It is more like a desert here than the Mississippi River Valley. What can I say, the times they are a changin'.

  5. Hooray for rain. I am glad you got some rain even if it won't help the drought. Every little drop will assist in some way.

Beautiful last picture. I bet you wanted to stay in the woods all day.

    1. We did stay there most of the afternoon :)

The rain was a wonderful relief. I hope for more rain, and even less damage.

  6. I share your sentiments on deer. Living on an island like Montreal comes with a mixed blessing: no deer. The squirrels do their best to pick up the slack and take out riders. So far thankfully none have succeeded. Very nice photos Keith.
