Instead

All the talk about a winter storm bringing ice to the Metro Area turned out to be only talk. The talk about it turning cold? It seems the forecasters got that right.

With the possibility of the freezing drizzle and ice accumulations being tossed about, I was thinking Monday might even be my first drive to work day in a very long time. Instead, Sunday afternoon found me pushing Isabelle out of the garage and heading out for a ride.

I decided to head over to Jefferson Barracks Park.

It had been years since I visited the area of the Park where the Museum is located.

I didn't remember there being a Memorial commemorating those who fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Heather's Grandfather was a veteran of this battle.
Even though the windchill on the bluff was around 10F/-12C I spent quite a while at the Memorial. Considering the conditions those who participated in the Battle endured it seemed appropriate I would discover it on a cold day.

I rode over to "Jeff" Barracks under an overcast sky, but as I left the Park the sun broke through the clouds.

By the time I headed home the sun was setting.

It's going to be cold tonight. It seems all sorts of robins have suddenly appeared during the past week. It seems like really poor timing on their part. I wonder how they will fare. This is definitely not their kind of weather.

  1. I really like the color in the last photo. Pretty nice. Supposedly it was very nasty weather back home. With temperature around or above freezing causes all sorts of havoc. Maybe even cancelled school due to busses being unable to navigate the roads.

    1. Ice is no fun especially at that point where it has watery ball bearings everywhere. Yuck. Good timing on your part.

I'm glad you liked the last photo. It was a nice late afternoon ride.

  2. I'm with Richard, really like the colors in that last photo and I like how you have the windscreen in there.

We have robins all year round here in Corvallis, but we still comment on seeing them in winter.

    1. We have a few robins winter here, but we've been seeing flocks of them recently. I've never really noticed this before. We've had large flocks of geese and robins. I don't know if they are robins returning or passing through. I know this, they are pretty cold now.

I've seen photos with the windscreen. I admit being a total copycat. Glad you liked it.

  3. For me, it isn't only the color in the last photo, it is the depth of field. Love the windshield in focus with the sunset blurry.

Glad the snow and ice didn't come, but I fell for the robins when the temps plummet.

    1. Lori,
Yep, I was playing with the depth of field. I think it turned out okay, but I know for sure I had fun in the process. That's really the most important thing, isn't it?

It was pretty quiet outside today. I heard no robins. We may warm up into the 40F's by Wednesday. It will be interesting to see if they reappear.

    1. It was nice, and I now have gear that keeps me warm without feeling like the Michelin Man.
